Pythons are beautiful and deadly snakes found around the world. They can be found in the wild along with the homes of thousands of people around the world. Although they may not be as fierce or threatening as venomous snakes, pythons are still interesting.
Pythons are iconic snakes that people have used as inspiration for fashion and kept as pets. Although they are originally from Asia and Africa, pythons are commonly found throughout the world nowadays. Whether you see them in the wild or a zoo, these snakes are very intriguing. In some part of Africa, people see Python as a special animal that is sent by the gods to protect the land and they tend to worship python.
Somewhere in Ouidah Benin Republic, there exist a temple where pythons and kept for worship.
The pythons don't harm people and human are not permitted to harm them either. Once every week, the pythons are released into the town to hunt and feed on rats and chickens.
During this one week, the pythons visit people in their homes and humans treats them as special guest, feed them well, pamper them before returning them safely to the temple.
In some part of Africa, pythons are important symbols and entities of voodoo religion in Ouidah. It is a practice that if human accidentally of intentionally kill a python, the person will perform some rituals after which the carcass of the python will be taken back to the temple for a proper burial and for the cleaning for the person that killed the python.
