The Lagos State Government has launched an investigation into a viral video showing students engaging in smoking and alcohol consumption inside a dormitory, allegedly at Excel College, Ejigbo. The Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mr. Jamiu Tolani Alli-Balogun, has described the incident as "disturbing" and contrary to the values expected within the state's educational system.

The Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, through the Office of Education Quality Assurance (OEQA), has commenced a full investigation to verify the authenticity of the video, confirm the identities of those involved, and assess the level of institutional oversight. A monitoring and investigation team has been dispatched, while preliminary engagements with the school's management have also begun.

Any school found culpable will face appropriate sanctions in line with Lagos State education policies and regulations. The government is determined to ensure that all learning environments are safe, disciplined, and conducive to the academic and moral growth of every learner.

The Lagos State Government reaffirms its commitment to student welfare and assures parents and stakeholders that the findings of the investigation will guide necessary actions to prevent a recurrence. The safety, well-being, and moral values of all students remain paramount to the government.

The incident serves as a reminder of the need for vigilance and cooperation between schools, parents, and the government to prevent such vices. By working together, we can create a safer and more supportive environment for our children to grow and thrive.

The Lagos State Government's prompt action in this matter demonstrates its commitment to protecting the future of its students. By taking a firm stance against vices, the government is sending a clear message that it will not tolerate any behavior that undermines the values and principles of its educational system.
