PEACE RESTORED: TINUBU BROKERS TRUCE BETWEEN FUBARA AND WIKE

  Written by Ella Michaels

President Bola Tinubu has brokered peace between Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Nyesom Wike after a closed-door meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. The meeting marked a significant step towards resolving the months-long political crisis in Rivers State.

Governor Fubara described the meeting as a "father-son discussion," where Tinubu offered guidance on governance and conflict management. Fubara emphasized that there is no rift between him and Wike, stating, "As far as I am concerned, we have made peace. Fubara and his principal are working together." This development comes after President Tinubu lifted the emergency rule imposed on Rivers State on September 18, 2025.

The Rivers State caucus in the National Assembly has commended President Tinubu for lifting the emergency rule and urged Fubara and members of the House of Assembly to work together for the stability and growth of the state. In a joint statement, the lawmakers appealed to Rivers' leaders and citizens to support both the governor and the Assembly in fostering unity.

During a separate meeting with the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) in Port Harcourt, Governor Fubara lamented the poor utilization of the Port Harcourt and Onne seaports. He emphasized that maximizing the state's seaport capacity would attract industries, reduce logistics costs, and create jobs, adding that ports remain critical to national development. The NPA Chairman pledged the board's commitment to improving operations at the Rivers ports and solicited the state government's assistance in rehabilitating access roads and enhancing security.

The peace agreement between Fubara and Wike is a crucial step towards restoring stability in Rivers State. As the state government works towards maximizing its economic potential, the support of the NPA and other stakeholders will be vital in driving growth and development. With the emergency rule lifted, Rivers State can now focus on harnessing its resources to improve the lives of its citizens.
