Rev. Father John Damian Adizie Champions Youth Empowerment through Football Tournament and Humanitarian Initiatives

  By Mary Ugorji

In a vibrant display of community spirit, Rev. Father John Damian Adizie,  the Apostle of Divine Mercy, kicked off a football tournament aimed at fostering peace, unity, national security, and youth empowerment.

The event commenced last Sunday at Asumter Cathedral in Owerri, bringing together teams from the South East and South South regions. The South East team emerged victorious, defeating the South south team with a score of 3-0, celebrating their triumph with pride and the coveted trophy.
Speaking to journalists after the match, Father Adizie emphasized his commitment to empowering the youth through various initiatives. “We are now connected with the National Youth Council, making it easier to mobilize young people at the grassroots level,” he stated. “This success is a testament to God uniting us for this noble cause.”

Beyond the football tournament, Father Adizie revealed plans for a robust skill acquisition program designed to equip youth with vocational skills necessary for economic independence. Earlier this year, he donated tools such as sewing machines and clippers to support skill development initiatives in Okigwe Diocese. “These efforts aim to ensure that our young people have viable skills, whether they choose to stay here or seek opportunities abroad,” he added.

Father Adizie operates the Wars of Mercy Humanitarian Foundation, which champions the principles of divine mercy and humanitarian aid. He believes in the holistic development of individuals, as highlighted by his slogan: “Build the people, build the church.”
Indeed, his vision extends to women and the broader community through a comprehensive ministry of empowerment and healing. Father Adizie also inaugurated a retreat and event center in Ogbe which will serve to strengthen community ties and promote spiritual growth.

In support of Father Adizie’s endeavors, Senator Patrick Ndubueze of Okigwe Zone praised the initiative, noting the importance of tangible contributions to society. “We need to commend those who work quietly behind the scenes to make a difference,” he asserted, emphasizing the impact of church-led humanitarian projects.

As the tournament concludes, Father Adizie reiterated his message to the youth: “Together, we can build our nation. Let’s uplift one another and channel our energies into meaningful empowerment.”

This unprecedented effort by Father Adizie and his supporters highlights a path toward a more unified and prosperous society, where young people are empowered to thrive and contribute positively to their communities.
