The Oru West Local Government Area of Imo State burst with joy and excitement on May 27 as children from various schools gathered to celebrate this year’s Children’s Day. The event, held at the local government field, was marked by colorful performances, engaging activities, and uplifting speeches from prominent figures.
In a heartfelt address, Hon. Engr. Ikenna Adikibe, the Executive Chairman of Oru West, reassured the children that the administration, under the leadership of His Excellency Senator Hope Uzodimma, is dedicated to creating a thriving environment for every child. "Today is a special day to celebrate our beloved children, the heartbeat of every home and the true hope of our great nation," he remarked. Adikibe emphasized the importance of investing in children's education, promising ongoing efforts to enhance school infrastructure, provide learning materials, and boost healthcare for the youth across Oru West.
He urged the children to dream big and strive for excellence, stating, "You are never too young to dream and never too small to make a difference." Adikibe pledged that the local government will work tirelessly to ensure that every child flourishes in a safe and prosperous community.
Mrs. Uloma Adikibe, wife of the Executive Chairman and ALGON Chairperson, echoed his sentiments, expressing her delight in witnessing the happiness and vibrancy of the children during the celebrations. She conveyed her gratitude to the First Lady, Barista Mrs. Chioma Uzodinma, for organizing the event, emphasizing the significance of nurturing the youth as the future leaders of society. Her message to the children was clear: "Education is not a scam. Take your studies seriously, and the sky is your limit.”
The event featured colorful marching displays by various schools and traditional dances, showcasing the immense talent and creativity of the children in the vibrant local community. The traditional ruler of Isi Mgbidi Autonomous Community, HRH Eze Anozie Agusta Agwaramgbo (Ogbu-ehi-Odu 9), also graced the occasion, sharing his love for children and urging parents to nurture and guide their kids with care and wisdom.
At the end of this memorable day, the children left with not just gifts and treats—including popcorn, cake, and delightful giveaways—but also the knowledge that they are cherished and supported by their community. Indeed, Oru West’s Children’s Day celebration was a testament to the power of unity and care for future generations.
