A Shining Star Extinguished: Tribute to Lady Chioma Njoku
By Stevenie Michaels
The news of Lady Chioma
Njoku's passing on the NUJ Integrity platform left me stunned. My initial reaction was one of utter disbelief, as if it was a cruel joke. But, alas, it was a harsh reality.
As I struggled to come to terms with this devastating loss, I reflected on the remarkable life of this extraordinary woman. Lady Chioma was a pillar of strength, a shining star who illuminated the lives of all those around her. Her union with Chief Bright Njoku was a testament to the power of true love, a bond that was unbreakable and inspiring.
With her passing, I am reminded of other remarkable women who left an indelible mark on the world. Women like Dr. Bukola Olunloyo, a Nigerian doctor; Bimbo Odukoya, a popular Nigerian pastor and motivational speaker; Goldie Harvey, a Nigerian singer and reality TV show participant; and Omololu Olunloyo, a Nigerian journalist and activist, who, like Lady Chioma, were taken from us far too soon. Their legacies continue to inspire and motivate us.
Lady Chioma's impact on the world of journalism was significant, and her passion for her work was evident in the way she nurtured her newspaper, Onion. Her love for life, her family, and her craft was palpable, and her sudden departure has left a gaping void in the lives of all those who knew her especially her husband High Chief Bright Njoku.
As we mourn the loss of this incredible woman, I Princess Stevenie Michaels offer my heartfelt condolences to Chief Bright Njoku and his family. May they find the strength to carry on, even in the midst of this unbearable grief.
Rest in peace, Lady Chioma. Your memory will continue to inspire us, and your legacy will live on through the countless lives you touched.
