With just two weeks to go until the local government elections in Imo State, the All Progressives Congress (APC) is embroiled in a bitter controversy. A leaked list of chairmanship and councillorship candidates has sent shockwaves through the party, leaving many aspirants reeling.
The list, which emerged online on Friday morning, appears to reveal the names of the party's chosen candidates for the 27 local government areas and 305 wards across the state. However, the party has swiftly denied its authenticity, branding it "fake" and urging members to disregard it.
But the damage may already be done. Aspirants who did not find their names on the list are crying foul, alleging that the primary election process was flawed and that candidates were handpicked under the guise of consensus. The party's denial has done little to quell the unrest, with many demanding answers and transparency.
As the September 21 election date draws near, the Imo APC finds itself in disarray. Will the party be able to resolve the crisis and present a united front, or will the chaos tear it apart? One thing is certain - the people of Imo State deserve better than this.
