Former Governor of Imo State, Hon Emeka Ihedioha, has appointed a new Chief Press Secretary, CPS, Mr. Martins Ori. Ori, a seasoned journalist, succeeds Chibuike Onyeukwu, who served in the role from May 2019 to January 2020 and is now aspiring for the Chairmanship seat of Aboh Mbaise Local Government Area under the All Progressives Congress, APC.
Ori brings a wealth of experience to the position, having spent 10 years at The Sun newspaper in various capacities, including Assistant Editor, Sports, Education, and Investigation. He also worked as South East Bureau Chief at Hallmark Newspaper and later as Managing Editor at News Echo Newspaper. In 2021, Ori co-founded Oriental Newspaper, a weekly tabloid based in Owerri, Imo State.
This appointment comes amidst Ihedioha's recent departure from the People's Democratic Party (PDP) after over two decades of membership, along with thousands of his supporters. Although he has yet to formally join a new party, indications suggest he may join the Labour Party (LP), following consultations with LP's presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and Abia State Governor, Alex Otti. Ihedioha's campaign outfit, Rebuild Imo Movement, has announced its intention to coalesce into the Labour Party.
As Ihedioha navigates this political realignment, the appointment of a new CPS highlights his continued commitment to effective communication and media engagement. Ori's expertise will undoubtedly be valuable in shaping Ihedioha's public image and messaging in this new political chapter.
