In a press release on Tuesday signed by the Commands Public Relations Officer, Henry OKOYE, " following a distress call from Bishop Silas Anoruo, a male, on 7th January 2024, he saw a lifeless body of a young lady inside the gutter in front of his uncompleted building at Madumere Street by Christ church road and the Operatives of Owerri urban divisional headquaters immediately mobilized to the crime scene, recovered the corpse and deposited it to the Hospital for autopsy.
Investigation revealed that the deceased identified as Chinenyenwa Nnodua. She was last seen with her alleged lover, Chinenye Nwaneri, male, of number 43 Christ Church road Owerri, trekking down to his house late night on 5th January 2024 which raised suspicion and necessitated the arrest of the said Chinenye Nwaneri who is a member of Umuodu vigilante group for Questioning by the determined operatives of Nigerian Police.
Initially Chinenye Nwaneri denied knowing the deceased during questioning, but later confessed that he was with the deceased the night before she found dead in a gutter but that she is not his lover.
Questioning competent witnesses which includes the sister of the deceased and a Vigilante member who was on duty with the suspect , the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) , the sister to the deceased said that the suspect is her late sister's lover and that her late sister informed her that she will be spending a night with the suspect who was her boyfriend.
On his own part, the vigilante who was on night duty on the said night confirmed seeing the deceased and the suspect walking down Christ Church road that said date.
Investigation is still ongoing as the corpse is going through autopsy and the case will be charged to court soon pending on the outcome of the investigation.
In another development, one Onwuhara Nwachukwu, 27 years old male was arrested by the Men of Imo police command for stabbing one Theophilus Ukwe, a 57 yeas old Man to death over minor dispute.
The suspect admitted to the crime and narrated that he gave the deceased a severe matched cut on his body which resulted to his death. He also said that the deceased approached him in his own farm with a Cutlass in his hands while harvesting his own palm fruit and he reacted in self defence. His case will soon be charged to court.
The PPRO assured the Imo people that the Commissioner of Police CP Aboki Danjuma is working tirelessly to ensure he secures lives and properties in Imo state and resuce crime to the barest minimum.
