The Association of Local Government Information Officers in Nigeria (ALGION) has honored Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, with an award of excellence for being the best supportive governor in grassroots information development and effective governance. The award ceremony was held in Abuja on September 24, 2025, during the annual national conference of ALGION, attended by Information Officers from across the 36 states and Abuja.
Presenting the award to the Governor, the national President of ALGION, Comrade Jibril Aliyu Bisallah, said the choice of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf was based on the reformative and transformative initiatives of his administration in grassroots information development. He highlighted the unprecedented transformation of the information management system in Kano State, citing initiatives such as continuous manpower development through capacity building, enrolment of information officers into professional bodies, provision of a conducive working environment, and tools required for effective information management.
Comrade Bisallah also noted the government's efforts in improving lives in the state through laudable programs and initiatives, including massive infrastructure development, road construction, renovations, and reconstruction of schools, hospitals, bridges, and other critical infrastructure. He added that the government's commitment to manpower development, enhanced welfare packages, and improved working conditions for the state's workforce has been remarkable.
Responding to the award, the Kano State Commissioner of Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, thanked ALGION for the recognition, describing it as purely sentiment-free and merit-based. He reiterated Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf's commitment to effective governance and grassroots development, which has earned him the respect and admiration of his peers and the people of Kano State.
