The Imo State Government has come out in defense of Governor Hope Uzodimma's decision to host the Imo contingent to the just concluded Women African Cup of Nations tournament in Morocco. In a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information, Public Orientation and Strategy, Hon Declan Emelumba, the government dismissed as mischief and inconsequential the insinuation of tribal inclination by the Governor.
According to Emelumba, the Governor reserves the constitutional and moral right to host the Imo contingent, and his actions were borne out of a desire to show appreciation and gratitude to the young Nigerians from Imo State who made the nation proud. He explained that the victorious squad from Imo State paid a courtesy visit to the Governor at the State Lodge in Abuja, where he received and prayed for them, and promised to host them in Owerri this weekend.
The Commissioner noted that the Governor's actions were misinterpreted by some social media platforms, which claimed that he formally hosted the contingent in Abuja. However, Emelumba clarified that the Governor was actually at the airport to receive the entire team and accompanied them to the Presidential Villa in Abuja, where he announced a donation to each of the girls on behalf of his brother Governors.
This gesture, according to Emelumba, showed the Governor's nationalism and patriotism, and demonstrated that he did not discriminate against anyone. The Commissioner asked those who are aggrieved by the Governor's courteous gesture to think again, suggesting that they may actually be the ones blinded by ethnic and clannish prejudices.
The Imo State Government has described as malicious and uncalled-for the attacks on the Governor, saying that he has not done any wrong by his gracious act of courtesy and gratitude to young Nigerians from Imo State. The government believes that the Governor's actions were a symbol of pride and patriotism, and a demonstration of his commitment to the welfare and development of the people of Imo State.
In conclusion, the Imo State Government has reiterated its support for Governor Uzodimma's decision to host the Imo contingent, and has urged the public to focus on the positive aspects of the Governor's actions rather than speculating on motives. The government is confident that the Governor's gesture will be seen as a symbol of pride and patriotism, and a demonstration of his love for the people of Imo State.
The people of Imo State are proud of their Governor's gesture, and believe that it is a reflection of his commitment to the welfare and development of the state. The Governor's actions have been seen as a boost to the morale of the people, and a demonstration of his leadership and vision for the state.
As the state government continues to work towards the development of Imo State, it is expected that the Governor's gesture will be seen as a symbol of hope and inspiration to the people. The government is committed to ensuring that the state is governed in a manner that is transparent, accountable, and responsive to the needs of the people.
The Imo State Government urges the public to continue to support the Governor's efforts towards the development of the state, and to reject any form of negativity and speculation. The government is confident that with the support of the people, it can achieve great things and make Imo State a better place for all.
