The recent State of Imo Address delivered by Governor Hope Uzodimma on June 24, 2025, has been widely criticized for its lack of transparency, accountability, and sincerity. The address was marred by empty rhetoric, untruths, and a clear attempt to shift blame for the state's security challenges onto an unnamed opposition.
Uzodimma's claim that his administration has overcome the menace of insecurity in Imo State is a blatant lie, especially considering the recent bombing at Eke Ubeheze Market, Awo-Idemili on June 24, 2025, which resulted in the death of one person and injury to several others. Many parts of the state, including Okigwe, Onuimo, Ihitte-Uboma, Owerri West, Oguta, Ngor-Okpala, Orsu, and Orlu LGAs, are currently under siege by hoodlums, kidnappers, terrorists, and organ harvesters. The governor's assertion that all is well in Imo State is a clear indication of his disconnect from reality.
A litany of lies has been told by the governor, and it's time the people of Imo State held him accountable. The recent attacks in Ngor-Okpala, Okigwe, and Oguta LGAs are a grim reminder of the security challenges facing the state. On May 6, 2025, 26 passengers were kidnapped on the Owerri-Aba road, and one of them was reportedly shot dead by suspected Fulani terrorists. The whereabouts of the remaining 25 are still unknown. Similarly, on May 8, unknown gunmen launched an attack in Umuna, Okigwe LGA, burning over 20 trucks, razing shops, and reportedly taking over 20 innocent lives.
The governor's denial of the security challenges facing the state is not just a display of Uzodimma's State of Imo Address: A Lamentable Display of Deception and Negligence but also beastly callousness. He seems to be oblivious to the pain and agony of the people he claims to have been elected to serve. The people of Imo State deserve better than a governor who is more interested in massaging his ego than in addressing the security challenges facing the state.
The people of Imo State deserve better than a governor who is always blaming an unnamed opposition for the insecurity plague in the state since his Ascension to power as Governor in 2020, more interested in pretending to be in control than in actually addressing the challenges facing the state.
They deserve a leader who is committed to transparency, accountability, and good governance.
One of the most disturbing aspects of Uzodimma's address was his failure to provide a clear account of the state's finances. He did not disclose how much has accrued to the state in federal allocation, intervention funds, and internally generated revenue over the past five years, and how these funds were spent. This lack of transparency and accountability is a clear indication that the governor is not committed to good governance.
The recent State of the State Address by Uzodimma was a mere jamboree, devoid of substance and sincerity. It was an exercise in self-aggrandizement, with the governor using the platform to exalt himself rather than to provide a true reflection of the state's challenges and progress.
The people of Imo State deserve better than a governor who is more interested in pretending to be in control than in actually addressing the challenges facing the state. They deserve a leader who is committed to transparency, accountability, and good governance. They deserve a governor who is willing to listen to their concerns and work towards addressing the security challenges facing the state.
The truth must be told about Uzodimma's governance. The people of Imo State need to know the reality of their situation and the failures of their governor. Only then can they begin to demand better from their leaders and work towards creating a brighter future for themselves and their state.
