By Mary Ugorji

It was a moment of deep reverence and celebration of a life well-lived as the children of the late Apostle General Victor Adamson Onwubuariri Oguoma, led by Hon. Chris Oguoma, laid their beloved father to rest on Saturday at his ancestral home in Umungaonyeche, Umuihua-Umuodu, Owerri Municipal Council, Imo State. He was aged 89.

The commendation service, held at his residence and conducted by the Eternal Sacred Order of the Cherubim and Seraphim, was a solemn yet uplifting gathering of dignitaries, clergy, family, and friends. Preaching at the service, His Eminence Elder Dr. Paul Onyegble JP emphasized the importance of living a life worth emulating, serving God in truth, and loving one another.

The burial attracted high-profile figures from across Nigeria, including notable political leaders and community stakeholders. Despite prior commitments, PDP National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu (SamDaddy), was among those who called to extend their condolences.

Speaking to journalists in his home, former APC Chairman, Hon. Chris Oguoma, expressed heartfelt gratitude to all who supported the family. Reflecting on his father’s life, he described him as a selfless philanthropist and dedicated servant of God.

> “My father sat there lonely, but in the end, he became a king. He was a man who gave his all for others. We plan to establish a foundation in his honour to continue his legacy of selfless service,” Oguoma said.

He further revealed plans to support upcoming programs of the OAIC (Organization of African Instituted Churches), acknowledging their support during the funeral.

> “You stood by us with advert placements and billboards. I heard about your upcoming August event — we will be part of it, just as we’ve followed our father’s legacy,” he pledged.

The late Apostle Oguoma was instrumental in the founding and expansion of churches across Umuahia, Azikiwe, Clifford Road, and other locations, donating land and resources to the gospel mission. According to his son, he was passionate about spreading the Word of God and used his resources to support ministries across the region.

Survived by eight children and several grandchildren — all alive and thriving — his life was seen as one marked by divine grace, dedication to God, and love for humanity.

In an emotional tribute, his first daughter, Mrs. Doris Chinwendu Onyewuchi (née Oguoma), described her father as “a man like no other.”

> “To describe my dad is to try to describe the world. He was a father to all, a man of peace, and a friend to the forgotten. He gave shelter to the homeless, food to the hungry, and love to everyone who crossed his path,” she said.

Mrs. Onyewuchi, now based in the United Kingdom, emphasized her father's strong spiritual life, saying his prayers were a pillar of strength for the family.

> “He taught us to be truthful, honest, and sincere. He lived what he preached. He left a vacuum that will be hard to fill, but we’ll do our best to uphold his legacy.”

Wisdom Kendy Anyanwu, the first grandson of the deceased, also shared his memories:

> “He was a great man — kind, compassionate, and firm in his beliefs. He taught us to be generous, stand for truth, and never betray one’s values. His legacy is not just in what he did, but in who we’ve become because of him.”

As family members, friends, and dignitaries continue to pay tribute to a life that touched many, the legacy of Apostle Victor Oguoma endures — not just in memory, but in action. Through planned charitable initiatives and ongoing commitment to community service, the Oguoma family has pledged to keep the flame of his vision burning.

Indeed, the life of Apostle Victor Adamson Onwubuariri Oguoma was one of grace, generosity, and godliness — a life well fulfilled.
