Swift Action by Scorpion Unit Operatives Leads to Arrest of Two Suspects, Reunion of Child with Family

Owerri, Imo State - In a daring operation, the Imo State Police Command has foiled an attempt to traffic a four-year-old boy, arresting two female suspects in the process. The suspects, identified as Joy Ugwu from Idah, Kogi State, and Rosella Michael of Zamba, FCT Abuja, were apprehended by operatives of the Scorpion Unit on April 14, 2025, at approximately 6:00 p.m. in Owerri.

According to investigations, the boy, Jaffa Umar, was abducted in Abuja while selling vegetables. The suspects had brought him to Owerri and were negotiating to sell him for ₦2.7 million before their arrest. A third suspect, believed to be a nurse, is currently at large and being actively pursued by the police.

The Imo State Police Command, in collaboration with Zone 7 Police Headquarters, Abuja, ensured the safe reunion of the child with his family. This swift action has brought relief to the family and demonstrates the Command's commitment to protecting vulnerable persons.

The suspects have been transferred to the Zonal Criminal Investigation Department (ZCID), Abuja for further investigation and prosecution. The police are working tirelessly to apprehend the third suspect and bring all perpetrators to justice.

Commissioner of Police, CP Aboki Danjuma, commended the operatives for their swift action and reassured the public of the Command's commitment to protecting vulnerable persons and dismantling trafficking networks.
