In a decisive move aimed at restoring peace and unity in Owerri West Local Government Area (LGA) of Imo State, Chief Victor Osigwe (Ikeoha), the Executive Chairman, has announced the immediate dissolution of all town union governments within the council. This bold decision comes in response to mounting concerns over the operations and activities of these unions, which have reportedly fostered division and disrupted the harmony of the region's autonomous communities .
Chief Osigwe explained that the increasing negativity surrounding the activities of the town unions had become detrimental to effective governance and the overall peace-building efforts within the area. "The persistent negative reports and rising tensions from the town unions have begun to undermine the smooth functioning of the local government. As a result, it has become imperative to take urgent and decisive action for the well-being of our people," he stated.
As part of the dissolution, all President-Generals and officers of the affected town unions have been immediately relieved of their duties. This measure, Chief Victor believes, will bring much-needed relief to the communities and help establish a more peaceful and productive environment in Owerri West.
