Dangote Refinery Debunks NNPC's Claim: 'We Didn't Sell Petrol at N898 per Litre
By Ella Michaels
In a shocking turn of events, Dangote Group has vehemently denied the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited's claim that it purchased petrol from the Dangote Refinery at N898 per litre. The NNPC had earlier announced the purchase, but Dangote Group has described the statement as "misleading and mischievous".
According to Anthony Chiejina, Dangote Group's Chief Branding and Communications Officer, the company did not sell petrol to NNPC at the aforementioned price. He urged Nigerians to disregard the statement and await a formal announcement on pricing from the Technical Sub-Committee on Naira-based crude sales to local refineries, appointed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Dangote Group assured Nigerians of the availability of quality petroleum products and an end to the endemic fuel scarcity in the country. The company also noted that it sold products to NNPC in dollars, resulting in significant savings compared to current imports.
As the controversy unfolds, one thing is clear: Dangote Refinery is committed to addressing energy insufficiency and insecurity in Nigeria. But at what cost? The truth behind the pricing dispute remains to be seen.
