The Imo State Police Command has dismissed a recent viral video circulating on social media, which purportedly shows Avu Market being set ablaze by angry protesters. In a press release, Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Henry Okoye, described the video as fake and urged the public to disregard it.
According to Okoye, the video is an old footage from a 2023 fire incident at the market, maliciously recycled to mislead the public. He reassured residents of the area of adequate security measures in place, ensuring their safety as they go about their daily activities.
The State Commissioner of Police, CP Aboki Danjuma, has directed the State Intelligence Department to investigate and identify the source of the misleading information. Additionally, CP Danjuma cautioned residents to be cautious when consuming news content, emphasizing the harmful effects of misinformation on public safety."
