In a bid to create a drug-free society, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) collaborated with the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) on Tuesday, July 30, 2024, to take their campaign against drug abuse to Rivers State University in Port Harcourt.

Deputy Zonal Commander Rosemary Ajuzie, in an interview with journalists, stated, "Our goal is to educate the populace on the importance of a drug-free life and equip them to fight the drug menace, ensuring a society free from drug abuse and trafficking."

Ajuzie emphasized the link between drug abuse and criminality, noting that most individuals who engage in criminal activities are under the influence of drugs. She highlighted the availability of facilities for drug-dependent persons and the importance of counseling and rehabilitation.

The Commissioner of Police, Rivers CP Olatunji Disu, represented by Epiekiri Firstman, emphasized the dangers of drug abuse, including neglect of responsibility, hostility, and disorganization of one's senses. He stressed the importance of abstinence and seeking expert medical opinion before taking drugs.

The Chairman of PCRC, Rivers State Command, Mr. Voke Emore, highlighted the partnership with NDLEA and the Police on the War Against Drug Abuse (WADA), emphasizing the need to catch young people early and prevent them from getting involved in drugs. He advised students to abstain from hard drugs, warning of the damage they can cause to their health, career, and future.
