Local Security Commander Arrested for Killing Bandit Leader in Imo State

In a recent turn of events in Obiakpu Ohaji/Egbema, the clash between a kidnappers' gang and joint security operatives led to the arrest of a local security commander, Prince Okemezie, of the 'Say No To Crime' organization. The incident, which occurred on 6th February 2024, unfolded in a fierce gun battle as security forces interceded to rescue Lucky Odinaka, who had been waylaid by the crooked Bayelsea gang.

Upon receiving intelligence about the abduction, security operatives, in collaboration with the 'Say No To Crime' group, swiftly mobilized and stormed the kidnappers' hideout located in the Ukwuogba forest of Obiakpu. In the ensuing confrontation, the security forces managed to overpower the kidnappers, resulting in the rescue of Odinaka, albeit with machete wounds inflicted by his captors. Additionally, one suspect was apprehended, and a cache of weapons, including a pump-action gun, live cartridges, and a machete, were recovered from the criminals. Regrettably, the leader of the Bayelsea gang,  was fatally shot during the operation.

However, amidst the success of the operation, the atmosphere took a somber turn with the arrest of Prince Okemezie, the commander of the 'Say No To Crime' group. Allegedly, the Assistant Commissioner of Police ordered his detention in connection with the death of Bayelsea,  notorious kidnapper. Despite efforts by Okemezie's family to secure his release, he remains in police custody.

Prince Okemezie's allegiance to maintaining peace in the region through the 'Say No To Crime' initiative has been widely acknowledged. His immurement has left a noticeable gap in the security rig of Obiakpu, creating concerns about capability, Susceptivity in the area's safety and security.

The circumstances surrounding Okemezie's
 bust raised  questions about the involutions of law enforcement and the challenges faced by local security forces operating in erratic regions. As probe  into the incident continue, stakeholders are hopeful for a swift and fair resolution that upholds justice while recognizing the contributions of individuals committed to combating crime and ensuring the safety of their communities.
