Yoruba community in Imo elects new leadership, as PG, Odunayo harps on peaceful co-existence

The Yoruba Community Imo State (YCI)  has elected executive members to pilot the affairs of Yoruba Community in Imo State for four years tenure, during the keenly contested elections which was witnessed by the traditional council led by his Royal Highness Oba MUSIBAU OLADEJI and entire Yoruba Community in Imo State 

Dr Ogunyemi Odunayo Julius emerged as the President-General of all Yoruba-speaking towns and communities residing in the state.

The new president–general emerged victorious at the election conducted at Alvan Ikoku University of Education, Owerri, Imo State capital on Sunday.

Other executive members who emerged from the keenly contested elections include Vice President General- 1 Okigwe Zone: Comr. Bello Oladele, Vice President General -2/ Orlu Zone leader Alhaji Ridwan Wahab, Vice President General - 3/Owerri Zonal leader Barr. Muideen Kunle Yusuf, General Secretary Comr. Alatare Sulyman MUSA, Assistant General Secretary, Abraham Folorunso.  From Orlu zone, Organizing Secretary. Sodiq Muheeb Kehinde, Barr. Deji Alabi Assistant. Financial  Secretary.

Others include State Women Leader:Alhaja Anifat, Animashaun, Treasurer State: Alhaji Ibrahim Bello. Financial Secretary: Mr. Ademiju Oluwaseyi, Publicity Secretary State: Prince Adekunle Giwa, State Youth Leader, Mr. Odumini Adebayo Mukaila, Zonal Youth Leader Orlu Zone, Mr. Oguntimeyi Oluwasegun (winner)  Okigwe Zonal Youth Leader,  Mr. Ayomide Oluwaseun, Owerri Zonal Youth Leader:Mr. Olalekan Azeez, Chief Whip State (From Orlu Zone,  Mr. Oladele Tunde,  Assistant Chief Whip State, Mr. Babatunde Olarewaju, Assistant Publicity Secretary State Mr Suliaman Hakeem and the  Assistant Treasurer State:Mr Odukoya Olatunji, Mr Oguntimehin Oluwasegun, Youth Leader (1) (Orlu Zone, Mrs Latifat Ololapo, Woman leader (1) Orlu Zone.


In his acceptance speech, the new President-General, Dr. Ogunyemi Odunayo Julius urged members of the Yoruba community to continue to promote unity, peaceful co-existence, harmonious relationship, and love among themselves as well as with the host community.

According to him, “The election is over; it is time for us all to work for the development and upliftment of our community in Imo State. Let all of us join hands and rally around my administration to forge a united front to take YCI to greater heights.”

In their separate remarks after the election, the Electoral Committee Chairman, IEC Dr.Isiak Adedokun and 
IEC Secretary Barr. Yinka Afolabi said, "This is the first time the Yoruba community council will unite together. These executives are well elected and we know they will perform to expectation. "
